Assessment
Assessment and evaluation are important for improvement of student learning and for documentation of student achievement. The quality of assessment and evaluation systems depends upon their alignment with five principles articulated by Stiggins:
- Defining clear and appropriate learning targets
- Identifying users and uses of assessment information
- Selecting assessment methods appropriate for the targets and uses
- Sampling to achieve representative results
- Preventing distortion and bias
Role of Assessment
Assessment plays a significant role in classroom activities that are focused on developing and refining student abilities.
Assessment should be imbedded in instruction and used frequently to demonstrate its value and to encourage students to take risks that enhance learning. The TIDEE instructional model endeavors to integrate assessment as an integral component of instruction.
